On the existence of mass minimizing rectifiable <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mi>G</mml:mi></mml:math> chains in finite dimensional normed spaces

چکیده
We introduce the notion of density contractor dimension m in a finite dimensional normed space X. If m+1=dimX, this includes area contracting projectors on hyperplanes whose existence was established by H. Busemann. m=2, contractors are an ersatz for such and their existence, here, follows from works D. Burago S. Ivanov. Once available, corresponding Plateau problem admits solution among rectifiable G chains, regardless group coefficients G. This is obtained as consequence lower semicontinuity Hausdorff mass, which we offer two proofs. One these based new type integral geometric measure.

Every ε-isometry u between real normed spaces of the same finite dimension which maps the origin to the origin may by uniformly approximated to within 2ε by a linear isometry. Under a smoothness hypothesis, necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained for the same conclusion to hold for a given ε-isometry between infinite-dimensional Banach spaces.

We study the existence of cubic quotients of finite-dimensional quasi-normed spaces, that is, quotients well isomorphic to `∞ for some k. We give two results of this nature. The first guarantees a proportional dimensional cubic quotient when the envelope is cubic; the second gives an estimate for the size of a cubic quotient in terms of a measure of nonconvexity of the quasi-norm.
